1. Take the time to read everything you can.

2. Note new vocabulary words.

4. Subscribe to YouTube or podcasts

What do you enjoy? Humour, blogs, politics, cooking, humour? There is a podcast for every interest. Or an English YouTube channel. You may initially find it difficult to understand different accents, but persevere and you’ll soon be able to understand them (as well as learning new vocabulary from your native speakers friends!)

5. Go abroad

We would love to hear about any better ways to learn English other than living and studying in a country that speaks English. There’s no doubt that English is the language of the world. With so many English-speaking countries to choose from, you will be spoilt for choice. Consider Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom as well as the United States, Canada, and South Africa, to name just a few.

6. Check out what your friends are posting

Have you got friends who write in English online? Explore the messages that they post and try to explore one or two per week. You can choose from a wide range of topics, including news articles or magazine articles in English, conversations, blog posts, songs, and videos.

7. Ask as many questions possible

The curiosity that killed the cat also drives the learner towards mastering the language. You will be faced with many questions as you begin to learn English. Ask questions and find out the answers! Ask your teacher if you’re enrolled in the course (it is his job). If you are studying alone, don’t worry. You can find answers by searching blogs, language sites, asking other students or browsing forums. You won’t regret it!

Choose an actor or singer who speaks English and watch them. Search the Internet for all the interviews that he has given and watch them. The first time you watch them, make sure to get the basics. Take the time to note down any interesting phrases or terms. These interviews will help you expand your vocabulary with slang, stories, satirical formulas, and anecdotes.

9. Begin with the basics

10. Do not let yourself be discouraged

When you feel you are not progressing, don’t say “I cannot speak English” or “I will never understand that”. These phrases should be removed from your vocabulary. Say “I am learning English, and I am getting better every day”, “It is not always easy but it is worth it”, or “I have improved so much since six months ago”.
